I'm undecorating our Christmas tree and I am realizing that this is one big reason people get depressed in January.

We do the kind of Christmas tree where every single ornament is from a place we've been, or a gift, or something one of our kids made. They're full of memories; they *are* memories. And putting them away to be forgotten feels like pushing the meaningful parts of our life in a canoe off the banks of the stream of the year and watching them float downriver to the next Christmas. And knowing there are only so many more stops ahead where it will touch the banks again.
