I will never understand people that configure #GNU #Emacs into bits ... the defaults are great.

  @weekend_editor Yeah, but .. Emacs is Emacs. When you modify it to be VI Code .. it is no longer Emacs. Or when you tweak it into lordy knows what ..

  Some of us have been using various Emacsen for a long time. (Since about 1978, for me.)
  We're likely preserving old defaults that are too far down in finger memory to be worth changing.
