- Come back a few hours later
- Discover the laptop was asleep the entire time, and the compute process will take two hours to finish

Mac OS 8.6 in the nineties had a feature, in its power saver, of having a special corner of the screen where if you move the cursor, the computer will not auto-sleep. GNOME Linux in the year 2024 appears to have no "temporarily indicate you shouldn't sleep" feature at all
