   Kid: Hey Dad, uh, can you pay my tuition.

   Me: When’s it due?

   Kid: sheepish grin, looks at wristwatch

     @tek There is this piece of cliche-wisdom: "small kid, small problems; big kid, big problems". I don't agree with it fully, but it does work for any financial ones.
