@smartomato@eientei.org thing is that I have Linux installed in this machine, I need windows for work, and I would rather not install it on my hard drive, so I was looking at options on what to do

@waifu windows over usb sucks, I would recomend using live linux with persistence files until you can afford an ssd

@waifu Hopefully you have better luck than I did. Last time I tried I kept getting BSoDs whenever the OS got starved of available bandwidth.

@phnt@fluffytail.org no it's a usb3, it's been an hour so I'm guessing I'll shut it down and search for another option

@waifu You aren't using a USB2 stick, are you? Windows 10 and 11 suck on spinning rust, and the random IO of USB sticks is much worse.

@waifu Your options are either replacing the current drive/dualbooting, or an external SSD. 2.5" HDDs have a boot time of around ~10 minutes from my experience and take literal hours to update.

@phnt@fluffytail.org well at least 10 minutes it's better than an hour and wouldn't contaminate my SSD as much

Also worth noting that OTG Windows install on USB devices aren't officially supported, so your mileage will probably vary at some point.

@phnt@fluffytail.org Yeah I see no problem from that part, I will only use it for remote desktop, literally the only reason, because I can't use vms and they don't have a linux client
