Aaaand since Elon has, as expected, turned his back on free-speech, I will become more active on the fediverse. Whatever honestly, I expected this way sooner if anything.
I will keep this instance as my main one unless I ever decide to setup my own fedi instance, which is unlikely for now until I at least get my personal website back up, and an email + xmpp server up under my domain.

@DigitalCheese there's nothing like being a single user instance, with a matching XMPP / matrix / email setup.

@prettygood I am tempted to do such very soon. I want to get to a point I am unreliant on anyone else online for hosting anything, including going as far as to start maining darknets for many activities.
Website, email, XMPP, git, and maybe fediverse I will host for myself alone under my blog-site domain.
Email, IRC, XMPP, (maybe) Matrix, Git, Fediverse, Mumble, game-servers, FTP, and more I am considering hosting under the Venith name.
I might as well prepare for the future, everything I hope to have static-IPv4 addresses available that will be used for decades, and things should be made to be accessible over the darkweb as well when possible.
Moar freedom :D

@DigitalCheese I self-host literally everything I need, except email, and that's because... holy shit that's complicated. I did it at work for years, not worth it, for one guy. I pay ~$3/mo to make it someone else's problem.

@prettygood I am going ultra-schizo with everything, so I'll bother with it even if it annoys me. I've secured nearly all of my accounts with 64+ character passwords and TOTP 2FA, or whatever their maximum security limit is if lower than that. I am planning to do full-disk encryptions soon, and, since I've already obtained a domain, I might as well truly self-host.
The IP is preferred to not be leaked, but isn't the biggest deal as long as it doesn't point to my town (for example, my current IP points quite a bit away from my town because of the fact I am in the middle of nowhere whereas my ISP is in a more populated area).

@DigitalCheese my own personal IP could geolocate me easily, I also live in Nowhere, KY. I just pay for a VPS. 2 cores and 4GB of memory is plenty for everything I need including pleromer.

@prettygood if locating me ends up being an actual issue, I will have to just get a VPS and hope it goes well. Otherwise, I will try to self-host literally at home. Preferably, I will at least self-host anything which can be done over darknets alone, because an I2P website won't dox my IP but a clearnet one will.
