I wonder if peanut oil is less bad than the major seed oils. You can extract it by hand, and it will separate from the peanut mash itself.

@Escoffier hence the questions about peanuts, they were in use around the civil war, and for oil as well, iirc.

@sickburnbro@poa.st I think this is kinda over simplified. I still consider it to be a better frying option than rapeseed even though it’s higher on this chart. But I don’t know why. Just a gut feeling. Literally and figuratively. Stuff fried in canola makes me feel worse.

@makeheroism it's because it's more than just lineolic acid, it's how the oil reacts under heat.

@Escoffier that's what I think is interesting about peanuts, they've been grown in virginia for quite some time for food nationalpeanutboard.org/news/history-peanuts-peanut-butter/

@sickburnbro We're people eating it? I'm sure you know the various seed oils wete almost exclusively used in things like paint thinner and other industrial uses and one day they just decided to start feeding them to people and make all sorts of health claims with zero proof

Been buying raw peanut butter and almond butter from the health food store. Their only ingredients are peanuts and almonds respectively, and they naturally get some oil separation. They add canola oil to the cashew butter, though, or else I'd buy that. Wish they'd add a better oil like coconut oil to their cashew butter if it needs it instead of canola oil of all things.
