     @contrasocial first, the post does not say at any point that there were no human rights violations during this process. However, Fidel Castro, who was not a saint, was the only leader I have ever seen apologizing and admitting to having been wrong when it came to the treatment of homosexuals. In 2022 Cuba approved the family code that legalized equal marriage with 66% popular approval.second, do you say this for every country's founding anniversary?

     Why would anyone honor mass murderers and homophobes? Simply because they were also antagonistic to the US?

     Claiming dirtbags like Che Guevara "put people first" is laughable. Put them in front of a firing squad, sure.

     Yeah, and I say fuck those motherfuckers. I feel no need to whitewash their racism and misogyny, they are directly responsible for poisoning our democracy from the start.

     We shouldn't honor or make excuses for those who commit atrocities simply because they claimed they were doing so under a banner we favor. Apologies and sentiment don't bring back those who were murdered.

     The Cuban revolution was a failure and should stand as nothing but a cautionary tale about dictatorship.
