@jay indeed. I think it was part of a general environment of american optimism where no one was prepared for things to go spectacularly wrong.

@lzg was just reminiscing about this with a friend last night. It seemed like our parents were not equipped to address the disaster with us kids and so it was just ignored/not spoken about to us.
