I could pass as white, after a winter spent without sunlight and if my accent gets toned down eventually and if I straighten my hair (or cut it short to where it doesn’t curl so hard), I’d probably pass off well enough as white, despite there being 0 chance of any white supremacist agreeing with the categorization if they learned where I’m from
whiteness is kind of funny like that, where it’s defined by first and foremost, your proximity to blackness, the further you are the more likely to fit into the category, and second it’s defined by membership in US/western hegemony
I’ve known Persians that look whiter than the average American, but they obviously don’t fit into “white” as a label
