     Having a meal out or taking in a show are hardly frivolous luxuries. They are quite normal activities. Her branch gets pruned first.

     @ZeroSum06 I'm glad my working class family skipped a few luxuries to have me their youngest child. This didn't used to be a debate, it used to be a blessing.

     That was their decision and obviously it worked out for the better which is good. Under different circumstances many would choose to have the child and take part in simple experiences like dining out & viewing a show.
