For the #InsertAnInvert2024 prompt flyer, #artadventCalendar and #invertefest this final week of the year: my kaleidoscope of butterflies. Kaleidoscope is the wonderful name or term of venery for a group of butterflies so I designed this print to match the symmetrical images you can see in a kaleidoscope. 1. A square linocut on white paper with the words ‘A kaleidoscope’ at the top and ‘of Butterflies’ at the bottom in black ink. Inside are 3 rings of 3 types of butterfly at 60° to each other with the middle ring offset by 30° so they look like they are arrayed like items viewed through a toy kaleidoscope. From the inner ring out there are three each of the orange Isabella's Longwings (Nymphalidae Eueides isabella), three yellow Eastern tiger swallowtails (Papilio glaucus), and three blue Red-Spotted Purples (Limenitis arthemis astyanax).
