#AskFedi: is there a hashtag on here about technical questions that a newbie could ask – without judgement?

Because I have SO MANY QUESTIONS (especially since I started my #selfhosting journey), I cannot find the right answers through online searches and I'm certain Fedi people could offer good advice... I'm just too embarrassed to ask most of the time.

I wish there was a "hire a nice, trusted dev for 30 minutes" service, LOL 😅

@_elena Hi, FediAdmin here. happy to help if I can and you want .

Multiple hashtag usually do the trick such as #AskFedi #TheDomain #TheIssue

@_elena Welcome! While I frequent the #selfhosted and #homelab tags, please feel free to reach out if have a question! I’ve been self hosting something for decades at this point and am currently migrating everything to a kubernetes cluster (I work with clusters and webdev).

      Good luck on your journey!

@_elena as others have already offered so will I. Some of us have become very skilled at finding answers and resources. On good days that includes finding guides pitched at a level that suits the asker, though that's often the harder challenge.

p.s. your mention of yunohost was a great trigger for me to reconsider self-hosting so I already owe you one. I used to muck about with such things 20 years ago (PHPnuke that some may recall) so you're inspiring old hacks as well as newbies.

@_elena I'll always provide help if I know the answer. No judgement.

I've stood up so many servers and have posted, and still do, many newbie questions. I know the feeling.

That you are self-hosting earns you a badge of grand respect, actually! I feel a kinship.

Yono, I used to use YunoHost, but I was quickly limited by their approach to handle app installations. And, I am not sorry for the pun :p

      Good morning Fedi friends!

      I hope you're having a lovely holiday break ✨

I'd like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all the people who kindly offered to answer my #selfhosting newbie questions. The Fediverse is THE BEST!

I've been compiling my Qs in a Notion database and what's really cool is that I have more "tech" volunteers than questions at this point. So: please expect a question from me soon. Of course I plan to share my findings in a new post to help fellow newbies 🤗
