Vivaldi browser had a long sync outage that is now back online. I appreciated how transparent they were about the difficulties. It was frustrating but I still support them and will use the browser:

    1) No other browser is as feature rich with such a robust community.

    2) They have made an active and genuine commitment to the Fediverse.

    3) And they refuse to get on the AI hype train.

If you are looking for a new browser, give them a look!

@NeadReport @Vivaldi Really great point. i might try to add that to the original post if I can fit it in. I could be very wrong and AI / Crypto could be ushering in a great wave of human progress but I really just feel like they are solutions looking for problems and in a few years time, many companies that went all in will come up short.

@seanbala @Vivaldi I use Vivaldi about half the time now. Still unable to use it full time due to long reported and not fixed bugs / issues.

@tekguru @seanbala @Vivaldi I do appreciate their ethics. But I never noticed the outage, because I mostly use Firefox.

@tekguru @uberprutser @Vivaldi I still love #Firefox. And I had given Brave some thought, though I am leery of their interest in crypto / AI. Same with but I think they are trying to take a middle ground. I used to use Firefox primarily but I stopped for a couple of different reasons, mainly that I could not easily add two different Firefox Sync log-ins to my work computer. But it remains my secondary browser. In this outage I tried Librewolf and Zen Browser and was pretty impressed.

@seanbala @Vivaldi I would probably be using Vivaldi if it was open source.

I think it's one of the best browser options for the average person who doesn't really care about that, but I personally find it important that the code behind my browser can be reviewed by anyone at any time for any reason, especially considering how integral something like an internet browser is to our lives.

That's really my only issue with it. I used to use it a long time ago and it was great from what I remember.

@OpenSauce @Vivaldi If I understand correctly, the only thing that is not open source is their UI. That is because it is so unique and they have put in a lot of time with it. But everything else is open source.

Only flatpak on Linux Mint. I avoid Flatpaka

OTOH, I don't care about Sync for browsers or ebooks as it's a privacy fail and I also don't need sync.

@raymccarthy @Vivaldi Out of curiosity, why do you avoid flatpacks. I just downloaded @fedora for the first time and so I'm quite new to the Linux space.

@dh @Vivaldi If you log-in to one of the devices, it should sync it up and then you can re-log into the other devices. I had to do that. With a newborn at home, I've been doing a lot on my phone and so I logged in on iOS first, and then I did it on all my other devices. One silver lining to the outage and reset is it got rid of a couple of ghost device accounts in my sync from attempts to download Linux.

@seanbala Not so sure about @Vivaldi anymore. After reading this I checked my sync settings. I use Vivaldi on multiple devices (Win, Mac, iOS) and I am logged out in all of them and never got any warning about any sync issues.

I also did not get any email.
