     rms has noted that it is acceptable to use a distro that is nonfree by default if you remove the proprietary software and use it in freedom.

     I installed Gentoo yesterday on bare metal, the default kernel binary builds distributed by them are free, which is why Linux-libre wasn't found in their repos.

     Their own docs suggest that the kernels are free by default and hence why "firmware" modules are required if your hardware is proprietary/bricked, much like Debian does.

     @sally You just extract the .tar, copy the .config, `make olddefconfig` then `make menuconfig` to check for tricks, then; `make -j$(nproc) && make modules_install && make install`.
