You're already on the #Fediverse, surely you've noticed you are more free here than on any other proprietary social media platform. Why stop there, why not ditch proprietary video platforms too, and use free video platforms instead? Be the change you want to see in this world!

     @sun@shitposter.world There's a network effect on things like Twitter too, but that's the "price" you pay for freedom. There's less quantity, but a much higher quality. You can't "doomscroll" as much, but that's better for your mental health, and gives you more free time to actually achieve things.
     
     So far having less quantity has only made me spend more time on being creative myself (although I program things rather than make videos). I'm sure other people will experience similar effects too.

     @tyil @sun hard pill to swallow: the internet isnt different than it was when i was a kid, or during the infancy of 4chan or anything. there is just insanely more people who choose to flock to platforms that feed their dopamine addiction. the same amount of people are still finding fedi, adjacent sites and communities as were before. the trough was never meant to point this way and trying to nudge it to is not going to provide the outcome you want.

     @tyil @sun the unfortunate part with threads "joining" (lol) the fediverse is as more people click that switch to federate, the more databases on here get bloated. each passing day as somebody else ticks that box its adding more bloat to databases. fediverse was meant to be a bunch of small self-hosted and community driven servers (im the worst person to talk about this considering ~31.3k people) but a lot of people will try to federate with them and not realize the implications. couple weeks down the road their 25-30GB/year database is now over 500G and their machine is locked, they cant even connect to it. there was some thought behind it, but there was no reason threads should have ever added federation. at all.

     @graf@poa.st @sun@shitposter.world The only real difference really is just the number of people, and given how the average person is literally retarded, its easy to spot that there are more retards online. It is true, but the good places continue to thrive if you look for them, it's likely that's why you sought out the #Fediverse too.
     
     I don't want the endless stream of shit to flood this way, that's why I don't want things like Facebook joining the Fediverse. But if I see people having issues with their current proprietary platforms, I can at least advice them it doesn't have to be this way if they truly want something different and better. It is our duty to inform those who aren't aware, but are definitely willing. Those who aren't willing will just ignore us anyway.

     Elon has made himself pretty useful with his attempts to bend the advertiser cartel over the table. People constantly argue "but muh private companies they should have ultimate control over where they put ads" but I couldn't give a crumb of a fuck. Advertising ghouls have shit up the Internet so bad I hope they get raped into oblivion because of a billionaire sperglord's vendetta.

     @graf @tyil @sun There isn't any practical difference between having 5000 posts federated from zuck on threads.net and 5000 posts federated from cunnynigger1488 on optiplex under his bed. Faceberg isn't dumb enough to offer a relay firehose endpoint for his whole site, and even if they were, if someone were to subscribe to it, the damage would be fully self-inflicted.
