     @below are you thinking of the “Action button”, the slightly smaller physical button above the volume buttons on newer iPhones? It replaces the mute switch and so out of the box it toggles mute state when you hold it down, and displays a little message if you don’t hold it down long enough.

     The other day, my new iPhone informed me to something like "Holding the Volume button will toggle silent mode", and that was fantastic and it worked.
     Today, I can not get that to work anymore. And the Googles do nothing. Was I dreaming? Or how does this work?
