@sindarina Seems to be iOS/Mac only. I'm hedging my bets in case I need to migrate back to Linux at short notice. So this won't work for me.

@StrangeNoises @sindarina My "migrate back to Linux" reasoning is that Tim Cook is 64 and indicated he may retire in the next few years. Hitherto he's stuck to Steve Jobs' way, but his successor could go anywhere, and probably will. At which point Apple could enshittify as fast as Google or post-Balmer Microsoft (from tolerable to utter garbage in five years flat).

@cstross @sindarina same reason I haven't switched [back] to Apple Passwords: Want to keep my Linux bolthole open. Hence 1password (and firefox, and libreoffice…)

@StrangeNoises @sindarina Linux, like the Fediverse, is too decentralized to completely enshittify as a single entity: and if Linux turns bad, there's always (Free|Open|Net)BSD or even Plan 9.

@StrangeNoises @sindarina That's basically my point. mastodon.social could sell out to Meta tomorrow and merge with Threads, but we'd still have the rest of the fediverse.
Monocultures are vulnerable to a single point of failure (often from an unexpected direction—cf. Twitter's sale to Musk). Polycultures are inconveniently atomized but hardy.

@cstross @sindarina i mean, Fedora and/or Ubuntu might enshittify - go into any linux forum you'll find people saying it's already happened - but we'll always have Arch…
