Is there any legit source on methods to play discontinued faux-online Android games? I'm sure they could be manually hacked to remove the phone-home that no longer works and blocks doing anything, but someone into preservation has probably already done this?

I should probably pick up a cheap Android tablet sometime to experiment with this sort of stuff. Set it up with MITM root CA and mitmproxy and analyze the traffic of all sorts of apps for this and other purposes...

@landley Tablets are generally easier than phones, lots don't even have locked down bootloaders. But MITM setup doesn't even require rooting AFAIK. Just installing the custom certs.

@dalias I've picked up three cheap Android tablets over the years, and never managed to jailbreak one to install my own image on it. (Then again I never spent more than a couple hours each trying. Nor have I set up a working raspberry pi...)
