@prettygood @sleepingnevi noise is distracting. If something that needs my attention I get a notif (torrents, chat apps, terminals), otherwise I focus on what I'm doing (what I have in front of me)

@mischievoustomato @sleepingnevi literally nothing is allowed to give me a notification. Make your icon light up or I'll never know it. -

@prettygood @sleepingnevi fair, i prefer to work the way I do atm. TBH even when I was on windows (or other DEs eeally) I didn't really care about tray icons

@mischievoustomato @sleepingnevi I spend a lot of time *not* looking at the screen, and if I miss a notification its like it never happened. I prefer the permanence of icon badges, etc. -

@prettygood @sleepingnevi ah, on gnome notifications seem to be sticky or they last really long on the screen, so I do see them as they happen, and the dot that appears next to the time when there's missed notifs is very noticeable at a glance so I know if I missed notifs
thinking about this, the philosophy I have is "if i care about it, I'll go and see it, otherwise IDC and much rather not have it visible"

@kimapr @sleepingnevi @mischievoustomato if linux had Android notifs I would install openbsd. Absolute hate. -

@prettygood @sleepingnevi @mischievoustomato this is why android is better than linux
Like have you seen android notifications? i've always wanted something similar at my linux desktop. the notifs only go away when you choose to or the apps tells them to, e.g. a chat app would nuke message notifs if you've already read them on any device. and they stay out of your way in the Notifications center, optionally blasting a noise and a popup on the screen
