    There are, I think, only two ways to get the #Filipino all over the world to use less—if not leave—Facebook and Twitter:

    1. We need a @plurkofficial UI and UX; and
    2. A #Friendster like UI and UX (original Friendster) …

    … for the #Fediverse and/or #ATmosphere ( #Bluesky ) networks.

    With optional features like:
    * Pages
    * Videos and Shorts
    * Games
    * DM/PM
    * Neat image gallery

    I think #Streams #Hubzilla and/or #Friendica fit for those options. We'll just need it to have a UI and UX similar to the original Friendster. A highly customizable profile and allowing HTML use not only in profiles but in comments as well.

    For Plurk-like, we just need Plurk itself to federate, seriously. @plurkofficial yuhoo, time to federate!

    Once up and running, we can get traditional media and social media writers to report on it, so Filipinos everywhere will be aware.

    Then again, the #Philippines media generally ignored and is ignoring the Fediverse, Mastodon, and Bluesky, it's why very few Filipinos are aware of it. And telcos only provide free and/or discounted access to Meta products, Twitter, and Viber.

    Though, I think it still is possible even without local telco support.

    What do you think? What can get Filipinos to use Facebook and Twitter less, and more Fediverse and/or ATmosphere?

      @youronlyone tbh, facebook is so entrenched in Filipino social media culture, it's stuck. I have my situationship ask me to have an IG account and so I did. Sadly, it is what it is.

      To me, it starts with the education sector then govt policies and laws that discourage the use of social media through campaigns, that may impact Filipino usage on big tech social media.

      But hey, we have nation-wide issues as of the moment such as misused funds and possibly multiple pork-barrel schemes :) lmfao

      @uncomfyhalomacro True. Even politicians are using FB extensively (even for underhanded campaigns 🤷🏽).

      I wonder if Meta will do something similar for us regarding the upcoming elections wherein they adjusted their Algorithm to not push election related content. They're doing it in other countries now, not just the US.

      Or, maybe, they won't since our politicians buy a lot of ads. 😅

      Yes, education sector. But they too use it a lot. 😭 Especially FB Messenger (which requires an FB account). Even though WhatsApp is not popular in our country, they still got us through FB Messenger. 🤔

      @youronlyone @uncomfyhalomacro I’m kinda of the same way as you. I still advocate for it. But putting it into practice was such a difficult thing and no one else cared about it so I was basically stuck using less private platforms.

      @youronlyone i think it's more of convenience and what's popular. most filipinos do not take seriously the privacy and security aspects of those platforms but on just the convenience. i can't blame them. even for me, the UX can be a bit overwhelming.

      i am at the point of not caring too much (I do still advocate), since like, we have other pressing concerns like you said, the elections and politicians biting each other's hands left and right because they want that slice of cake from tax-payers.

      @youronlyone @plurkofficial @pilipinas @philippines easy answer is to get Filipino brands, celebrities and celebgrams to use Threads, and ensure that sticks. Then *hopefully* Bluesky, Fedi, etc… will follow.

      @uncomfyhalomacro Yes, the sad reality, privacy and security is not a concern by most Filipinos. 😅 2FA is a hassle, it's easier to create a new account. Posting photos of our children, and homes, is common. Birthdays are public information (even though it's in our privacy laws that it's protected information).

      Now that you've said it, I'm also at the point of not caring about it any more. It's now just an advocacy, in the sidelines. If there's an opportunity mention it. If there's a trend, take advantage while it's being talked a lot, and cross fingers 🤞🏽.

      @jmalonzo Good point. Threads is the "bridge" we can use, and the brands, celebs, fandoms, to keep using it to get Filipinos more accustomed to anything but Facebook and Twitter. @plurkofficial @pilipinas @philippines
