    @evan@cosocial.ca I would still agree if it was university or city level, but I don't get the idea why national postal service should do that. Maybe because I lives in a different country and postal service isn't much a almost-daily needs here nowadays.

      @ufal So, postal agencies vary a lot from country to country. For a long time, the PTT (postal, telephone and telegraph) service was a common fixture for providing almost all communications services in a country.

      @ufal today, postal agencies provide a variety of services. In some places, they provide email accounts. In others, they have file sharing and storage services. In a number of countries, the postal agency is a banker of last resort, providing financial services to the public.

      @ufal I think one reason that people propose post offices as a Fediverse account provider is that they have a well-known role in providing communications services; that they operate in the public interest; that they usually have strict rules about privacy.
