Seems almost inevitable for totalitarians to run into this particular one-way street — where internal pressure/collapse necessitates creation of a permanent state of emergency in order to stay in power, and war being the most obvious tool to get that job done.
Goes for Netanyahy, goes for Putin; but Eisenhower (of all people) already called it out.
