   Putin says the war will continue, until Ukraine gives him what he wants.

   And he is right, because once Ukraine gives him what he wants, a new war will begin, where he wants some more.

     Seems almost inevitable for totalitarians to run into this particular one-way street — where internal pressure/collapse necessitates creation of a permanent state of emergency in order to stay in power, and war being the most obvious tool to get that job done.

     Goes for Netanyahy, goes for Putin; but Eisenhower (of all people) already called it out.

     @phaedral Certainly. Ortega y Gasset, Gramsci, Trotski, Bakunin, Marx, Hegel, Locke, Rousseau - insights aren’t all that rare.

     Orwell’s “boot stomping on a human face, forever” imagery is outstanding in its clarity, though.
