After removing Windows Defender, for Anti-Virus, my 1st choice is indeed Bitdefender. There is indeed a free version, which is limited, but it is better than no protection.

My 2nd choice, which offers more features, but may sacrifice some privacy is 360 Total Security (development is from China).

These two seem to be the more reliable options, while also not killing your performance either.
