I follow @pluralistic and read his posts often enough, but I'm thinking of getting one of the books now that I'll have a couple of weeks off, what do people recommend?
I very much liked the idea of unauthorized bread, but I'd like recommendations

@Frikisada @pluralistic i agree with all the recommendations, but i also want to put Makers or For the win on the list.
@Frikisada @pluralistic The 4 novella _Radicalized_ set is certainly timely here in the USA. Other really fun books include _Little Brother_, _Walkaway_, and his early work ( _Someone comes to town, someone leaves town_, _Down and out in the magic kingdom_). If you're cheap like I am, a bunch of his shorter fiction is open and on line. Search for "Car Wars" and check his site, https://craphound.com .
@Frikisada @pluralistic Right, I hadn't read the first two when I read Attack Surface, but it was still easy to follow.
The Lost Cause is interesting near-future science fiction. I recognized some of the older characters, sadly.
@fitzscott @pluralistic well I really like science fiction, but I'm ok with non-fiction as well? Most people seem to be going for little brother and walkway (which I think will be the one, sounds like something I'd enjoy)
Looks like attack surface is the third in a series? I'll keep looking
@Frikisada @pluralistic Fiction or non? The Internet Con is compelling & similar to his posts. On the fiction side, the Martin Hench books are fun, but I really liked Attack Surface.
Walkaway is exceptional. Blueprints for a better future.
Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom is a wonderful high-concept place to start.
I'll throw a big nod to Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town for being so delightfully strange & different I couldn't put it down.
Cory's work spans from among the best cyberpunk to magical realism to gripping noir to we're-almost-there guides to surviving our now, all with a wicked sense of humour.
(Thanks for the reads @pluralistic 📖)
Walkaway is my favorite. But Little Brother is really good too. And The Bezzle feels really relevant right now. I bet once you start you'll want to read his whole collection, tbh. That's what happened to me.
@NikT @Frikisada @pluralistic Someone Comes to Town was so unique. I really enjoyed it. He writes great fiction. But his non-fiction is superb as well, thought provoking and well researched.
@Frikisada @pluralistic
Walkaway, Little brother trilogy, For the Win, Makers, The Lost Cause and Radicalised. These would be my favourite fiction novels by him. All of them worth at least a re-read.
Edit: The Marty Hench cyber-noir novels are shaping up to be a very fertile ground for his skills/interests.The very definition of page-turners.
@javitel @Frikisada @pluralistic I use some text from “Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom” for one of my basic Web assignments. And the students have to learn to code links by linking to Cory Dictorow’s website.
I enjoyed "The Lost Cause" - decided to re-read it while on paternity leave and am really impressed with how much he is doing in the novel. Noticing more things on the second go-around.
