   The particularly disgusting thing about the hawk tuah coin is that they specifically targeted non-crypto rubes. If it was just crypto people who should have known better getting scammed I wouldn't care.

     for clarification: it was super easy to detect this was a scam if you "know crypto", there are tools and services and social media feeds that can alert you.

     At this point, I dont think you need to "know crypto" to realize that a internet currency based on advanced cryptography launched by some girl that got famous by saying "Hawk Tuah" is maybe not a good investment.

     @momo @Ree In 2010 I downloaded bitcoin core and ran it on a laptop and generated dozens of bitcoin and it went right into my self-custody wallet. The closest to luck is that I forgot about the wallet but I never delete anything so I still had it when it started getting valuable.

You would've needed to self-custody (dodge all the exchange failures), and make sure the wallet generator wasn't vulnerable (Libbitcoin). And that's on top of keeping the data secure (RAID + Truecrypt?). It really did/does require dumb luck.
