I find this to be a poor defense for the continuation of capitalism. A system being the current "most powerful tool for economic development at our disposal" says nothing about whether it is the best possible system. The same argument could've been, and probably was, made in the 1700s about feudalism, because at the time it too was the "most powerful tool for economic development," but feudalism lost to capitalism.

Socialism is a better tool than capitalism. Socialism allows all of society to have control over the means of production and guaranteed access to the basic necessities of life.
