"you're just making excuses! it's still WRONG for him to pardon his son!"
Cool. I'll make sure not to vote for him next time around. Now can we move on to important things like how to build safe communities over the next four years?

"but it is a violation of democratic norms!"
Yeah, and I doubt he'd have done it if the next presidency were going to be normal. If it were Harris stepping in I doubt he'd have done it at all.
But Trump? Given the people Trump keeps trying to put into place?
Sure. Democratic norms are important here. Totally.
I have strong opinions about pardon power and about it being used this way, but really nothing in my beliefs about that is going to change under Trump and the need to change it requires something much more structural.
So it isn't changing and I don't care. Even if I wanted to campaign on it as an issue I have to worry about more important things now.
But I _do_ care about this huge kerfuffle where people who should know better keep crying about "democratic norms" and "corruption."
@hrefna I am super concerned about it since apparently this is "troubling" my incoming new senator.
no, no, focus on other things
"But this is going to give Trump cover" is the most craven of the excuses I've seen here.
Do you listen to yourself? Trump does not care about "cover." He's the one claiming that if he has a political rival assassinated that shouldn't even be prosecutable and how he should be immune to state level crimes.
You think that's the kind of guy who cares about cover?
Oh, and I'm _sure_ his allies in congress will hold him accountable over that. Positive. Most definitely.
