    @spoon @mediapart it's like this RT segment from some years ago when they "discovered" that OCCRP is largely funded by US government money, by… dramatically scrolling to the website footer. 🤣

    I haven't worked at OCCRP since 2019, so no clue what the funding structure looks today. That said, I know the quality of work done by investigative journalists writing for OCCRP, and I know that quality of work defends itself.

    I do wish more sources of funding were available to investigative journalism.

      @spoon @mediapart OCCRP was never hiding its funding. You can find all the institutional donors listed here:
      https://www.occrp.org/en/about-us/who-supports-our-work

      You should of course make up your own mind on how you treat their reporting based on that.

      And if you think such funding structure is a problem, donating to your favorite investigative journalism outlet is a fantastic way of doing something about it. 👍

      Investigative journalism is unfortunately very expensive to do well.

      @spoon yeah, while I was there I was able to stop trackers from infesting the site. Oh well. Can't win them all.

      @rysiek @mediapart Thank you; that is helpful. I have seen really good work done by OCCRP, too.

      I suppose that can be true, and it can also be true that they should consider becoming more independent, given their mission. Maybe perks for members, rather than just donations, and *removing 3rd party tracking of visitors to the donor page*, would be a way to increase revenue.

      On this, the upcoming Webinar for $25 is a good idea! I'll sign up if I can do it while blocking their trackers.

      @rysiek @spoon @mediapart come on...
      Nothing on the website allows to understand that the US government is funding #occrp for more than half of the budget and the US government may block the choice of the OCCRP leaders etc.

      Of course it's a huge problem. Remember Trump is coming, are you kidding?

      And of course it's not easy to solve it, not easy to find how to fund independent investigation.
      It's a huge global and structural issue
