- you used filesystem snapshots as backup
- you didn't check the backups worked
- you didn't automate the backups
- "there's nothing i care about" (there were things you care about)
- you forgot the backup decryption key
- "i'll do it later" (did not do it later)
- you backed up the wrong thing
- your backups are corrupted
- you deleted the backups to save space
