   The path to the monastery left the valleys for the mountain.

   The kids kept exclaiming whenever they saw something new to them--a translucid lavender mushroom was enough to awe them for a time.

   Finally I could meet the monk I hoped would teach me some priceless truths, but all he did was listen to the kids talking about the books they were reading.

   We're back in our town street, and I realize only now that he *did* teach me a priceless truth.
