   @karnage @gerrybrabant Can you preemptively pardon a person for any (eventual) crimes?? Can't you only pardon for crimes a person been convicted for? Or at least charged for?

     The President's clemency power is conferred by Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the Constitution of the United States, which provides: “The President . . . shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

     The word you're looking for is immunity. I get it that the meaning of the word is lost on 99.9999% of people after the past 5 years, which is synonymous with "you're home free".
