    Does your work make you laugh when you read it back?

    There is humour aimed at the reader … and then there is the author's own amusement at things they inserted that probably nobody else would recognize as funny. The latter (in my own work) is what makes me laugh.

      @cstross : there are some hidden references in my books that I try to not tell anyone, hoping that, one day, a reader will tell me he got them.

      But maybe I should make a list in my will to be sure its not lost forever:

      In my latest reread of the Laundry Files, I *finally* noticed the "preta manger" joke.

      I really really should have gotten that the first time around, since I actually knew what pretas are.
