   November 27: If Hollywood wanted to adapt one of your books but change almost everything, would you do it?

   I am 60 and I don't have enough savings for a comfortable retirement: OF COURSE I'm open to offers, as long as there's lots of money attached!

   It'd be an entirely different matter if they want the rights to change everything without paying through the nose.

   And it'd be a different matter again if I was under 50.

     @bigjsl @cstross Not quite how it worked out for Witcher. The original shortstories / novel featued a bunch o strong opinions, including a matriarchy being the lesser evil, one of main characters being in a same-sex relationship, and most of all, a very strong anti-racist stance. Definitely A Book With a Message..

     On the internet, you'll find a ton of fans of the games, who have never read the books and will eagerly tell you how women, black people and gays have no place in Witcher.

     @cstross long after you sell out you will continue to enjoy the benefits of extra money. You won’t sell one less book in future because of it and folks will bitch online about how the book was so much better so you may even sell more books.
