Now on the third month of regular discussions with the mainframe people on how they might be able to send a file to our web application. Somehow each meeting manages to introduce a new misunderstanding that we will discover in the next meeting.

@bonkers It's called z/OS these days. I don't know if our ERP is running on literally that, but if it is not, then it is still software and people that are running on the same protocols and mindset.

Lots of meetings and forms and approvals to get anything done, and everything relies at some point on some weird mechanism from the 70s or 80s that doesn't play well with "can we get an API to query this" or "can you make it post it to this API", all integration is file transfers or emails, and file transfers happen over obscure mechanisms shielded in bureaucracy.

@clacke sounds like a total fun, especially for contractors

@clacke I've seen the Soviet clone of the S/360 back in my childhood, and later the original IBM, probably the 370, taking a small corner in what used to host the old servers. Sadly, never touched a terminal or printed anything on those rotating head printers

@clacke I fully understand. I have not exactly the same experience, but similar enough.
