   wow it's impressive how many news media people are happy to blame trans people for this election result, given their overwhelming presence in society seeing as they make up *checks notes* ~1% of the population.

     @firebreathingduck news media is a huge category and a lot, probably most, are busting their asses for next to nothing trying to inform the public and hold power to account, and we all need that. don't throw out the incredibly hard and thankless work thousands of people do because of some assholes at the times or post, mostly in editorial.

     This is just more evidence that the news media exists to protect a conservative status quo. If they talked about the real reasons for the election results, people might want serious changes.

     Their owners can't allow that.

     @firebreathingduck well, you can stop paying attention to them, and pay it to local independent media, or even amazing newsrooms like ProPublica, and the classic PBS/NPR types, there's a lot of good stuff out there, and it needs attention and community support.

     That's fair. But the assholes are getting an enormous amount of attention and the information holding power to account gets swept to the side.

     I'm getting my news here and paying for a few brands outside the main - most notably Mondoweiss. I just need more money to support the rest.
