I was camping in the Catskills once, heard that, and shouted back "SHADDAP!" Minute later a fox comes out to see who yelled at him. It was funny.

When i shout they don't give a shit, just look at me funny. If I clap my hands hard enough to bruise them that generally shuts them up.
They'll be mating soon enough and they are so noisy about the whole thing. Nothing more irritating than being woken up at 3 am by horny foxes 5 nights in a row. 😒

They also do that screech that sounds like a human woman screaming.

That's the locating family howl I was referring too. Scared the living daylights out of me until I learned which animal was responsible. :pepe_nervous:

Mine here never make that sound. I've seen Japanese and American foxes do it but the ones I look after just bitch at each other over eggs and occasionally bark like dogs or do this eerie howl thing when trying to find their family.

@Dagnar Ikr? I want to pet one and hear it laugh. I've only seen videos of them laughing. It's so cute.

OK so little bro and new fox 2 were just lurking outside and I did the laughing thing at them and they both just tilted their heads and tucked their ears back at me as if I'm a complete retard, which is in fairness partially correct. :pepe_durr:

Maybe I should try making a laugh sound to see if they'll respond in kind. I've never tried it tbf.
