Community Notorious (guyjantic@infosec.exchange)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024 13:31:12 JST Community Notorious @icedquinn Or a 20something white Canadian guy I knew in the early 2000s. One night driving in the GTA he got pulled over by Mounties. He asked why he was pulled over and spent the next 10 minutes getting beaten to a pulp. After ER visits and a few days in hospital he decided that, yes, he would take his American gf up on her offer to go live in Virginia.
I absolutely don't think your cops have quite the same problems as our cops, but I do believe something I read years ago: police across the world tend to feel more kinship for other police than for citizens of their own countries.

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024 13:32:54 JST iced depresso @guyjantic this is one of the very few times i will agree with marx on something: power castes are very real things.
it is very common for police, judges, senators, server admins et all, to prioritize saving the face and power of their profession over anything, like how judges routinely refuse to overturn bad rulings and instead "send back recommendations" that the original judge change their mind. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Nov-2024 13:34:41 JST iced depresso @guyjantic i kinda agreed with the knights behind the magna carta, where non-martial people can't really judge martial people on the merits. this is true because people who fight are keenly aware of how adrenaline works and how little time there is to make high risk decisions on imperfect information.
this doesn't really extend to the problem where ex. roman senators just all agreed not to prosecute each other for tax evasion
