The "new Israel" that is currently in the making will no longer be democratic (even to Jews) or liberal (even to Jews). It is becoming theocratic, authoritarian, and violent (not just to Palestinians as it always was, but to all citizens). As we've seen in Gaza and in the West Bank since October 7th, Israel is no longer pretending to be democratic. Because the far-right is waging a holy war, it is simply uninterested in pretending.

Despite systemic discrimination at every level against Palestinian citizens of Israel (not to mention endless occupation and war against Palestinians in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza), Israel successfully made it seem like it was a democracy.
