While the word “ferrets” and the cartoon versions have huge comedic possibilities, the real thing is fuckin’ scary. If people knew about them, they wouldn’t be pets. (Their tenacity and willingness to attack creatures 100x their size are both legendary.)

I have had the memorable experience of standing in a lab in front of a wall of ferret cages, with about 30 of the things *focussing* on me with feral intensity, weaving back and forth in hope of being fed. They're cute, cuddly, fur-coat-wearing land piranhas.
