Somebody with deep knowledge about #ActivityPub (the decentralized #Fediverse protocol that #Mastodon is also using) & the architecture of #Bluesky wrote a long-read about the wrong impression that Bluesky is a decentralized or #federated service.

In short: no, it's not. It's yet another centralized company that can - and according to experience - will go south some day.
«There are multiple ways this could end up being a problem for the decentralized world; one irritating way is that people might believe there's an "easy decentralized way to do things" that Bluesky has discovered which isn't actually that at all, and another is that Bluesky could collapse at some point and that people might walk away with the impression of "oh well, we tried #decentralization and that didn't work... remember Bluesky?"»
Do spare you extra work & maintain your social network here instead. It'll outlive the centralized alternatives.
