   I grew up with "the personal computer" (even though at the time it used a TV set as a display and a cassette player for storage) so *that* did not really change my world.

   What did change my world, though, was BBSes and later the Internet (not the Web, not social media, not the mobile networks: *the Internet*).

   Compare it to what citizen band was to radio: suddenly, you could communicate with people on the other side of the world.
