   let me tell you something…

   what i have learned as a technologist in the last 30 years is that, in the United States, tech CEOs are hired to baldface lie and obfuscate, even gaslight, about their products because there are no consequences to doing so.

   countries with huge markets like South Korea, Japan, Brasil, CEOs end in prison for lying about their products. not so here.

     She is very convincing and seems sincere. The problem is that none of her passionate vision has been realized yet. To actually do so would be to give up actual user capture, and that is something a corporate network never does. So, in spite of the lovely rhetoric #bluesky is a liberal honey trap pure and simple, capturing twitter refugees in a place where they can be contained and marginalized at the turn of a dial.

     she's repeating the same lies techbros told back in the aughts when selling things like "smart phones" and then the operating system that would turn them into surveillance machines, Android.

     the term "smart phone" exists because, by calling them neither phones nor computers, techbros lawyers were looking to circumvent wiretapping laws. and when they boldface lied about Android being safe because FLOSS, that sealed the deal.

     she's going by the same playbook.

     @mastodonmigration @blogdiva i heard her say that it couldn't be taken over because the source code is public and anyone could start another if they wanted.

     Since nothing is federated to the home node, they just created the highest switching costs ever. They don't want you to build a node, they want people to have to build an entire company

     She does it really well though. Watched her in an interview and was ready to follow the siren song. It's a beautiful pitch. Just, she is selling futures that are antithetical to any corporations goals. Indeed like, "do no evil." And she likewise probably believes what she is selling, but ultimately she is not in control. Money and markets are, and if money and are threatened by good, evil will triumph everytime.
