I’m being told that the largest Mastodon instance - mastodon.social - is now hiding my profile.
One person telling me it’s because of German obsession with making up antisemitism where there is none.
Anyone who knows me and my work knows that I frequently platform critical Jewish voices. My MA thesis was on Yiddish and Hebrew, I do memory studies which includes Holocaust studies, and I am co-producing a Jewish podcast by three radical Jews.
So what’s up Mastodon? Am I too Arab for you?

Does anyone know how we can get a concrete reasons given by the Mastodon.social mods? I want them decent and brave enough to simply state the why.
And if they dare say antisemitism they can expect a very long essay about how weaponising antisemitism has been one of the main tools used by the far right to make threaten both Arab/Muslims and Jews.
And I will demand an apology.

@Libby_ yeah I complain about that on this site too, but what I want from this specifically is for the mod(s) who made that decision to clearly state why. If I broke a German law I want to know which post(s) did that. Otherwise I’ll have to conclude it’s because of my background.

@ayoub The German authorities, and a whole lot of Germans, even some calling themselves antifascist, have a very twisted image of the post WWII world. And of the past I might add. They focus on one thing, ignoring all other Nazi victims, or even damaging their memory over and over, and are blind to what happens in the world today. It's almost funny to see a German so called antifa interact with anti Zionist Israelis, (or with me for that matter) they cannot find their baring.

@ayoub yeah, it's exactly that reason. Whole country is excluded from news and what is actually happening. Basically the whole population is uninformed getting fed with IDF Propaganda. You can't call it "genocide", you cannot call netanyahu a Nazi or a Facist, and if you use the slogan "from the river to the sea, palastine will be free" your demonstration will be shut down and you will dragged infront of the court. It's overwhelming group pressure.

Ever stopped to think that it’s the largest instance by far and its very existence weakens the “decentralised” claim due to the power differential between it and other, smaller instances, and gives it the ability to stop people’s voices from reaching a huge number of people at the whim of its moderators/owner? @ayoub Ever realized that #Mastodon is a software? Operating in a network with other software via a protocol?
Your are barking at 1 instance (the ugly mothership) as it were an authority like in centralized networks.
But it is the nature of the fediverse: Some instances suck, some suck more, and plenty of them are alright.
You can do it better? Just do it.
But pls: Get over it, and stop whining.
