I've always said that "IT" (whatever that means to you) follows an interesting cyclic sinus-like wave. Some people who see the beginning of a curve and then experience a shift away from trends, quite often also see a "return to base" of sorts.

The Fediverse reminds me quite a bit about what we did in FidoNet "back in the days", but using the Internet as a bearer, which obviously opens up possibilities.
