   My terminal emulator now supports running top, htop, and I can start up tmux and do some pane splits and run some commands.

   This is probably as far as I will take emulation support, In an unexpected moment of personal growth I realized I care too much about myself to let myself waste any more time in this particular tarpit.

     I'm glad I did it though, It's got me thinking a lot about things I actually do want in my little linux distro - if I was to put it into a sentence it would be "a graphical shell that is as flexible as a terminal" - which I think means its time start researching esoteric IPC designs and probably revisit plan9 papers.

     @sarahjamielewis Congratulations on escaping the tar pit! Terminal emulation is an onions whose innermost layer dates back to Napoleonic semaphore systems and every other layer is made of poor choices piled on top.

     If you haven’t already, take a look at Arcan. I think it has a lot of overlap with what you want to build. And @letoram is active here if you have questions!

     EDIT: I see Wes beat me to it in this recommendation!
