   Most animals only tolerate lactose in infancy. Humans started using milk from other animals like cows and goats, thereby slowly extending that tolerancy well past childhood.

     Apparently it's normal to become lactose intolerant after cutting milk from your diet for a long time. I stopped drinking milk for almost a year so I guess that tracks.
