@pivot Yea, i did a little looking on that. They have what they call "PDS" personal data server. Which as far as I can tell is like a mastodon instance. You run it yourself, point a domain at it, and then folks reach you using an double-at address sort of like Mastodon does. ATuserATdomain. The last I'd looked into it, I didn't come across that, and assumed bsky was just a new central walled garden like Twitter was. And I was not interested in that at all.

@gangrif my understanding is that bluesky is decentralized in the sense that they say it is, and there's some pieces of the protocol that could scale that way if they chose, but that there is no meaningful actual decentralization.

Is blue sky winning?
I'm listening to my morning news brief and the mainstream media personality is going on about a decentralized billionaire proof social network that _x_ users are jumping ship and heading over to in droves. For half a second i got my hopes up that mastodon was finally getting its break!
It's not. he was talking about blue sky. Which i was unaware was open. I swear id read here that bsky was closed? So i looked it up and sure enough, open and decentralized (rather opinionated in its deployment though).
I've been drumming the mastodon/fediverse drum for 2 years now and im having trouble getting even the nerds to join me, let alone the normies.
Has anyone else had a problem here?
