   The isolation transformer did fucking nothing and having the amp connected by aux made the speakers buzz constantly. Decided to connect the amp by optical cable instead so the digital/audio conversion would be handled by the amp away from the PC and it's fine. No more buzzing and no more startup ear rape. I think the ear rape was completely caused by the dollar store power strip.

     I use an spare Presonus Audiobox 2x2 I had laying around. Sounds great and I have two microphone inputs to boot.

     @John_Darksoul I don't have a digital audio out on my laptop, so I picked up a $100 external DAC that I run a USB-B cable to. Sounds way better than the headphone jack on the laptop or (God forbid) bluetooth.
