This morning, while the Fiancé and I were talking about how awful things are and generally feeling so, so low, someone dropped something on our stoop. We assumed it was the fabulous neighbor, since she does things like that. When we looked, it was a folded piece of paper with “thank you” handwritten on it. When I unfolded it, it was a long, printed letter from a neighbor we do not know except by sight and their dog. 1/

And she ended by saying that she would not let it go to waste: that she would be brave and be a source of strength to others, as we had been for her.
I wept as I read it. Everything I could have hoped to achieve with the signs was in that letter.

Then they moved here, got sober, and were hit by the Row v Wade decision. Then on July 4 of that year, they walked by our house with our first sign, and felt heard. 2/
